M Jay at age 26 has seen struggle, created strife and has been place in numerous detrimental situations that all greatly effected his life and its direction. Yet M Jay decided to push forward and follow his passion for music through hard work, dedication and always having an open ear.
M Jay found his passion for music early in life. As a baby he would bring his mom the CDs he wanted her to play. He grew up on music from 2 Live Crew and others of that era. His mother, not really having what it took at the time to be a parent, filled the role of friend rather than caretaker in his life. The introduction to rap and hip hop at such an early age helped to fuel his first passion of becoming a DJ, in which M Jay found that he was able to spot hit music, thus claiming his instrument the “artistic ear”.
Hailing from Progress Village in Tampa, M Jay learned the ways of the streets and was practically raised by them. Learning and growing from the mistakes he has made M Jay is determined to leave the street life behind. While serving time in prison, M Jay chose to educate himself and create a plan for his release. He proclaims now that he is not only a fan and an artist but a true student of great music. By the time he was released he hit the ground running, plan in hand, drive in his heart and purpose in his mind.
As a former member of Team Fetti and hand selected by Tom G to be one third of the group Street Starz, M Jay feels he has learned a lot about the workings of the music industry but has learned even more about what doesn’t work in the industry. He is grateful for his experiences and opportunities as a Team Fetti member, for it helped to shape him into the artist he is today. He understands the needs for patience but was ready for success to happen for him, thus leaving the group and putting the full focus on himself.
M Jay lends an imaginative blend to his songs with help from his partner T. Hands. Together they have created S. Gang Muzik, where they are masters at crafting catchy yet lyrical styles of writing. M Jay is defined by his inventive lyrical spins, unmatched street flare and extreme confidence. M Jay is ready to take hip hop in a new direction, what direction that is has yet to be determined. Recently mentioned in Ozone Magazine’s “What’s poppin in Tampa” section his new singles “Girls Galore” and also “Danger“feat. Swazy Baby are garnering huge attention from the streets, clubs and is beginning to impact radio.
Currently M Jay is working on many new songs, with new sounds influenced by the greats of the 70s and 80s, some rock and maybe a little bit of country. M Jays music has no barriers or boundaries. He only has one goal to create great music that entertains a diverse audience and makes them want to come back for more.
Setting stringent goals for himself M Jay is determined to “make it” to his first level of success within one year. He is on his grind as a student of television, journalism and broadcasting who is graduating from college in December, as a father determined to provide a solid foundation for his kids and as an artist to show the world that he was born to entertain, inspire and make his mark on the music industry. M Jay states that he will have achieved his desired success when “I can introduce my Grandma to Oprah”.
For now we all anxiously await the path that “Girls Galore” and “Danger “feat. Swazy Baby begins for take, the upcoming mixtapes “Donkey Kong” and “The Un-Clearables” and the new hits M Jay’s artistic ear has begun to create.
